When my dad was 16 he was "dating" a 34 year old woman with two children. He had been in foster care and group homes and the woman had actually worked at one of the houses. When other boys found out, they congratulated him. This is why I'm sick of seeing the "men get raped too" excuse against feminism. When men get raped and sexually abused, other men applaud it. Stop saying "men get raped too" and start looking at your own reactions to these events.

So it was ok that he got raped because other people congratulated him? What if the sides had been reversed? What if a 34 year old man had been “dating” a 16 year old girl and she was congratulated when her friends found out?

The point. It went straight over your head.

It’s not that it’s okay because he got congratulated. It’s that it’s EVEN MORE FUCKED UP that his male friends congratulated him because that woman was taking advantage of him. Yet people (usually MRAs) use male rape victims as debate points against people who are trying to help female victims, yet they are actually super shitty to make victims in real life and their only reason for mentioning them is to score points in feminist discussions.

Basically the OP was saying it’s not ok to use male victims to score points if and when you also perpetuate a culture that “congratulates” victims on their victimhood if it makes them look more “manly.” Own your shit, basically.

Nailed it.

  • Girls: *buy merchandise*
  • Boys: OMFG fake geek girls! You're just doing this to get attention!
  • Girls: *don't buy merchandise*
  • Execs: We don't want girls watching our shows, they don't buy the merch.
  • Girls: *turn out in massive numbers for comic book movie adaptations*
  • Execs: We don't need to make more female-lead movies, girls are already turning out for the white men.
  • Girls: *don't watch comic book movies*
  • Execs: Why would we make a female-lead superhero movie? No one will watch it! Girls don't even like this stuff!

On Periods: Let’s put this shit to bed right now: Women don’t lose their minds when they have period-related irritability. It doesn’t lower their ability to reason; it lowers their patience and, hence, tolerance for bullshit. If an issue comes up a lot during “that time of the month,” that doesn’t mean she only cares about it once a month; it means she’s bothered by it all the time and lacks the capacity, once a month, to shove it down and bury it beneath six gulps of willful silence.

Fact# 5857: Henrietta Lacks died in 1951. The tumor that killed her has been alive and growing to this day. The tumor is immortal and was used to progress the Polio vaccine and is the jumping point for most human cell research to this day. Scientists have grown some 20 tons of her cells.

They forgot the part where they took the cells and grew them without her consent.

They also forgot the part where to this day her family and still-living descendants have not received any compensation for the use of her stolen cells.

They also also forgot the part where she was Black.

Women are told it is unfeminine and gross to have muscles and to cultivate strength, which in turn leads them to actively avoid doing things that will build muscles and strength, which then makes them even less capable of doing things that require strength, which the critics then use as proof of women’s inherent physical frailty. And so the cycle continues…

Women’s difficulty with pull-ups is about more than biology | Fit and Feminist (via rememo)

1. build a social and/or legal system prohibiting women from doing certain things

2. asses everyone’s skill in those certain things

3. ???

4. conclude that women cannot do those certain things as well as men can
